Introduzione

Canberra, the capital and the largest inland city of Australia, is landlocked within the mountainous terrain of south-eastern New South Wales and located between Sydney and Melbourne.
This entirely planned city, built following an international contest for the city’s design, is home to a burgeoning lot of 0.3 million habitants, a fifth of whom were born overseas. Canberra was heavily influenced by the garden city movement and incorporates significant areas of natural vegetation that have earned it the title ‘bush capital’.
Its temperate climate beckons tourists with chilly winters, damp spring and pleasant summers (December to February).
Most Canberrans are native speakers of English, and at an average age of 32, the denizens are young and well-educated, with many employed by Government departments.

Overall Guide : Canberra is the capital of Australia, in the Australian Capital Territory, SE Australia. The Canberra urban agglomeration includes a small area in New South Wales. The federal government is the largest employer in Canberra; there are also printing and service... more industries. The site chosen (1908) for the capital city was first settled in 1824. In 1913, Canberra officially became the second capital of the commonwealth (succeeding Melbourne); however, although the Parliament first met there in 1927, the transfer of federal functions was not completed until after World War II and the striking Parliament House, on Capitol Hill, was not opened until 1988. The city was planned by the American architect Walter Burley Griffin. In 2003 parts of Canberra were ravaged by drought-intensified wildfires; the facilities of Mount Stromlo Observatory were among the buildings destroyed. Canberra is the seat of the Duntroon Royal Military College, Australian National Univ., the National Gallery, the Australian War Memorial, the National Library, the National Museum of Australia, the Academy of Science, and other research and scientific institutions.

Overall Guide : With a multitude of galleries and museums such as the National Gallery of Australia and the National Museum of Australia, Canberra is a veritable chronicle of Australia’s history. Dubbed by some as stiff-upper-lipped, which can be ascribed to it being... more the seat of the national bureaucracy, the city is the connoisseur’s quintessential haven besides catering to all ages in its range of offerings—the Big Splash Waterpark, the Australian War Memorial, the Telstra Tower and the National Dinosaur Museum. March is the season for the Celebrate Canberra Festival (music, food, mardi gras, raft race and parade) and the National Folk Festival. The Floriade Festival in spring ushers in a riot of floral colour. Its peculiarly named central business district, Civic, is also the centre of Canberra’s nightlife with Phoenix and Academy. Those inclined towards culinary delights can indulge at eateries like Alanya and Café della Piazza.

Overall Guide : 3rd generation in Canberra and still in the same house. Would not live in any other Australian city. Canberra has everything you need and it's true pleasure to live in a giant very well maintained garden. Most people that bag... more our city have never been here and think that all Government decisions are made by us the residents when in fact there are only four federal ministers that live here. We are the best educated in the country with the best living standards and this is not all because of our local Government it's what the residents want and expect.
Not to be missed National Gallery of Australia , National Museum , Australian War Memorial
