Cat island: Attractions and more...
Cat Island remains relatively untouched by tourists, making its pristine beaches and dense forests havens of peace and beauty. Visitors can swim and snorkel in several locations, and diving lessons are available for beginners. The 8-mile long Pink Sand Beach is one of the favoured destinations for lazy afternoons in the sun. Other attractive beaches include Fountain Bay Beach, located near Bridge Inn, with its natural fountain located in bushes near the bone fish flats, and Old Bight Beach, in the town of Old Beach, whose five miles of brilliant white sand afford a perfect opportunity for sunbathing or shelling.
The Hermitage, on Mt Alvernia, was built by Father Jerome, who was famous for building cathedrals and convents throughout the Bahamas. From its vantage point on top of the highest peak in the Bahamas, one is afforded a magnificent view over the island. Another important building on Cat Island is the Deveaux Mansion, an 18th century plantation house which can be visited for an insight into the early settlers’ lifestyle.
While enjoying the peaceful scenery and water sports on offer, visitors should
stroll through some of the small island towns, where island hospitality invites
you to relax and enjoy the slow pace of life.
