The Bahamas hosts several events of cultural and political significance. The first week of June is celebrated as the Labour Day which is followed by the Independence Day celebrations on 10 July. Emancipation Day is celebrated in August and 12 October is considered as the Discovery Day. Some areas have festivals associated with the traditional produce of the area like the Pineapple festival in Eleuthera and the Crab Fest in Andros.
Apart from these politically based events, the Bahamas is home to several other cultural events like the Caribbean Muzik Festival which is celebrated with dance, music and fireworks.
Junkanoo considered as the core of Bahamian culture is the nations most famous festival. The event takes place between Christmas and New Year and is celebrated all over the nation with drums, cowbells and whistles.
