The coastal city of Oistins is located in the parish of Christ Church, on the southern coast of the Caribbean Sea in Barbados, Central America. The town is a major fishing community in the region and enjoys the reputation of being the ‘Party Town’ of Barbados. The city has a population of around 2,200 inhabitants.
Oistins is characterised by a mild tropical climate, and it remains pleasantly warm and sunny throughout the year.
Oistins is an ancient city, and was the venue of the confrontation between the Royalists and Roundhead supporters in 1639 in a bid for independence of Barbados from Cromwell’s England.
The town is a major fishing community and the economy of the place is sustained primarily through fishing and tourism. Arts and crafts are important cultural elements of Oistins.
