St. James: Attractions and more...
St James has many glitzy beach-front mansions, pristine beaches, luxury hotels and resorts. It is a favourite holiday getaway for many Hollywood celebrities.
There are a number of different activities for tourists such as shopping, fine dining, deep-sea diving, snorkelling, wind surfing and golfing. There are a number of monuments of historical interest such as the St. James Parish Church and Portvale Sugar Factory.
A number of festivals and holidays are held throughout the year and are very popular with the tourists for the carnival-like atmosphere that pervades the parish. They also provide a great opportunity for observing and participating in the culture of St James and Barbados. Some of the more popular festivals are the three-week summertime Crop Over Festival and the January Jazz Festival.
