St Peter is a major hot spot for tourists and has many lavish resorts and hotels. There are many activities for tourists including water sports, shopping, fine dining and a vibrant night life. It is also a favored destination for yachting enthusiasts, and Barbados’ only marina, the Port St Charles Marina, is situated here.
Other tourist attractions include Farley Hill National Park, which is located among the ruins of a beautiful Georgian mansion and is a very popular picnic spot, and the Barbados Wildlife Reserve, which is a lush mahogany forest where visitors can observe the Barbados Green Monkey in its natural environment.
History buffs should also visit St Nicholas Abbey which is one of the only three genuine Jacobean mansions in the Western hemisphere. The biggest town in this area is Speightstown, which was one of the first major ports and commercial centres of Barbados as far back as the seventeenth century.
