Surface: The total land area of Barbados is around 431 sq km.

Population:  The population of Barbados is around 280,940. Africans comprise 90% of the population; Europeans, 4%; and Asian and mixed groups, 6%.

System of government: Barbados has a parliamentary democracy.

Capital: Bridgetown, with a population of around 80,000 inhabitants, is the capital city.

Religion: A majority of the population in Barbados are Protestant Christians. Anglicans and Roman Catholics are also present.

Official Language: The official language is English.

Government: Barbados has a parliamentary democracy.

Climate: Barbados has a tropical climate constantly cooled by sea breezes. The island is mostly dry and sunny with brief showers.

Units of measure and electricity: Barbados follows the metric system of measurement and the official electricity unit is 110V, 50 Hz.

Time Zone: The standard time is GMT – 5.

Currency: Barbadian Dollar (BBD).

Travel documents required: Visas are necessary for travel to Barbados.
Economy

The economy of Barbados is mainly dependent on sugarcane cultivation. Offshore finance and information services are other important money earners. The country exports its sugar, rum, chemicals, beverages and other food items to the United States, Trinidad and Tobago, UK and Jamaica

The average cost of living is very high in Barbados. Medical care, restaurants, accommodation and travel can be very expensive.
