Belize City is the largest city of the Central American nation of Belize; it is also the former capital. The city is located at the mouth of the Belize River and is a major port as well as the financial and industrial hub of the country.
The climate is tropical, hot and humid. Between the months of May to November, the region experiences rainfall.
The city has a population of 70,000 people. Most of the inhabitants are of multi-racial descent. The main ethnic group is a mixture of Mayan and European bloodlines. The other ethnic groups include descendants of the Creoles, Garifuna and East Indians.
Belize City was founded in the mid-seventeenth century and has a rich and vibrant history. Although English is the official language, Spanish, Mayan, Garifuna and Creole are also spoken.
