Belize : Health and Safety
This country is safe for the visitors on an average but there have been several incidents of violent crime against tourists. Belize City, Mountain Pine Ridge area and the Guatemalan border are the most infamous places and very unsafe for tourists. Thus, it is very important to be cautious and take the local advice regarding safety when in Belize. It also suffers from the problem of drug peddlers who try to persuade tourists in to buying some and then get away with their things once the visitor is drugged.

While on a trek in a jungle tourists should be very watchful as there are numerous poisonous plants and animals which can prove to be fatal. So, it is always better to take a guide along.

When visiting Belize, care has to be taken against dengue fever, malaria, diarrhoea, cholera and typhoid. Immunisation against hepatitis is advised before visiting the country. Foreigners should stick to bottled water and have packaged food as much as possible.
