Punta Gorda, locally known as P.G. is the biggest and largest town in southern Belize. It is the capital city of the Toledo district. The inhabitants numbered 6,000 generally speak English. They are of East Indian and Garifuna origin. All the inhabitants live in small villages and they perform agricultural and fishing activities. It is a fishing spot in the Caribbean Sea and has a seaport. The town has a Post office, police station, bank, a gas station, customs office, immigration office and a number of schools and churches. The temperature remains at an average of 26 degrees C around summer and 14 degrees C during winters. In the Center of the town is the public Dock, an attractive destination for tourists. On Wednesdays and Saturdays they have big markets there. Handicrafts made by local Mayan artisans, Guatemalan utensils and local products are available in the markets. Several hotels are there in Punta Gorda.
