San Pedro is a town located in the Belize district in Central America. The locality is situated in the southern part of the Ambergris Caye Island. It is the biggest city in the Rural South community of Belize. According to the 2005 census, the population of this city is nearly 8400. San Pedro was approved as a town in the year 1848. Majority of its inhabitants are descendents of Mexico who speak English and Spanish. The local residents of San Pedro are commonly recognized as San Pedranos. One of the major industries in San Pedro is tourism. The town is a favorite spot for tourists and is particularly famous for Scuba diving. Even though the town is less populated, it owns a hyperbaric decompression chamber in the island. San Pedro was an inspiration for the popular pop singer Madonna to release a song such as “La Isla Bonita”. The song was a big hit in the island and soon the title song became a nickname for San Pedro.
