The parish of Southampton is named after the Third Earl of Southampton, Henry Wriothesley. It is located in the southwest part of Bermuda and occupies an area of approximately six square kilometres.
The parish consists of the Little Sound to a great large extent and a number of large and small islands that surround it. The climate is mostly hot and humid, though in winters the temperatures hover at an equable 20° C. Rainfall usually occurs in the winter and is caused by Atlantic storms.
The population of Southampton is about 5,800. Most of the inhabitants are multiracial and trace their descent from Africans, British, Portuguese, Caribs, and Native American tribes.
The culture is a mix of various different cultures. The most notable influences are from the Afro-Caribbean, the British and the Americans.
