Georgetown, capital of the Cayman Islands, is located in Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands. Situated in the British West Indies, Georgetown is a popular Cayman attraction. With a population of around 20,600 inhabitants, it is also the largest city in the Cayman Islands.
The city has a tropical marine climate, characterised by warm, rainy summers and cool, dry winters. The summer season is from May to October, while November to April is the cold period.
The Cayman Islands were first discovered by Christopher Columbus in the fifteenth century during his final voyage to the New World. The city was struck was Hurricane Ivan in 2004.
The major sources of economy in Georgetown are the tourism and the financial services industries. The city houses over six hundred banks, making it the centre of the Cayman financial industry.Explore map
