Grand Cayman, a part of the Cayman Islands, is located in the central part of the United States. The capital Georgetown is in Grand Cayman, the largest of the three Cayman Islands. With a population of around 38,500 inhabitants, Grand Cayman is the most popular Cayman destination.
The island experiences a tropical marine climate, characterised by warm, rainy summers and cool, dry winters. The summer season extends from May to October, while the period from November to April is the cold season.
The Cayman Islands were first discovered by Christopher Columbus in the fifteenth century during his final voyage to the New World. Grand Cayman was struck by Hurricane Ivan in 2004.
