Poas Volcano is an active volcano in San Jose situated inside the Poas Volcano National Park. It is the largest active volcano (2,708 meters) and the last major eruption was in 1954. One can witness two craters of which one is about a kilometer and half wide. It is very accessible and one can walk up to the rim. It is best to visit the volcano as early as 0800 hours as the view gets obscured due to the clouds from 1000 hours.
