The Gold museum in San Jose offers an extraordinary look at the diverse gold artefacts of the ancient Latin American and Pre-Colombian civilizations.
The artefacts in the collection date from 500 BC to 1600 AD.
The entire museum is beautifully set up with excellent lighting and clear concise descriptions that give an insight into the native groups that lived in Costa Rica.
The exhibit itself is not the only reason for visiting the museum, but the building in which it is housed is also unique and interesting.
The museum situated under the Plaza de la Cultura, extends underground for three stories.
The architectural centrepiece of the museum is the long sweeping spiral staircase that connects the different levels.
It also has plenty of rooms which house numerous travelling art shows.
