Cuban cuisine is a combination of Spanish, African and Caribbean cuisines. Criollo cooking is the basis for cooking in Eastern Cuba. Rice and beans are the most popular dishes, although it varies by region. Western Cuban cuisine is mostly continental and is largely influenced by the European cuisine.
Simple desserts made using sugar and fruits like dulce de coco, casquitos de guayaba and rapsadura are highly popular. Beer or natural water is served during meals.
