Tourist Guide Granma
Granma is located in south-eastern Cuba, Central America. The province is well connected with the rest of the country by railways as well as roadways. Granma consists of the northern slopes of the Sierra Maestra Mountains and the basins of the Cauto River. The region has a population of around 829,000 inhabitants.
The region is characterised by a mild subtropical climate, with temperatures ranging between 20°C and 27°C.
The province is named after the yacht in which Fidel Castro had arrived from exile, along with eighty-two men, to begin the guerrilla warfare. Bayamo, the capital city of the province, was founded in 1513, and played a pivotal role at the beginning of the Ten-Year War.
The province’s economy is sustained primarily through agriculture and cattle rearing. Coffee is grown in the mountainous areas of Granma.
