Holguin is an unassuming, bustling city, with a busy cultural life. It is home to exquisite beaches, waterfalls as well as numerous historical and cultural sights. Guardalavaca, the most popular beach here, is bestowed with exuberant coral reefs and a huge array of marine flora. One can either relax in the sun or avail of the water sports facilities here.
Loma de la Cruz is the place where the annual Romerios de la Cruz ritual takes place, in May. The hill top offers a spectacular view of the entire city. San Isidoro Cathedral, built in 1730, and the Church of San Jose, built in 1815, are both historically significant as well as architecturally intriguing.
The important museums here include the Provincial Museum of Holguin, Museum of Natural Sciences, The Sports Museum and the Cultural Arts Centre.
The Mayabe Valley is an excellent place to take a leisurely stroll surrounded by mango trees and sample some typical Cuban cuisine.
