Pinar del Rio, also called ‘the city of portals’, showcases eclectic architecture in the form of the ancient colonial mansions, with a great variety of portals and columns. The village of San Juan y Martinez lies to the south-west of the city and is the tobacco growing capital of the world as well as a great place to buy cigars.
The Vinales Valley, which lies to the north of the city, is environed by outstanding natural beauty and has been proclaimed as the Natural National Monument of Cuba. Maria La Gorda International Diving Centre is a world renowned diving site, with clear waters and a passive bottom submarine.
The city is also home to numerous museums of natural sciences and history, the Provincial Visual Arts Centre as well as a famous library. Pinar del Rio offers its visitors several dining and nightlife options. Rumayor, Café Pinar and Cine Praga are some of the top entertainment venues.
