Housed in a reproduction of the 17th-century Spanish official's residence that was a police station under Fulgencio Batista's regime, the Museo de la Lucha Clandestina (Museum of the Underground Struggle) chronicles Cuba's communist revolution from its fledgling stages to its ultimate triumph.

The original building was burnt down by revolutionary Frank Pais in 1956 while Fidel Castro and his men were staging a landing on another corner of the island.

Among the most telling exhibits are Castro's manifesto, a Batista-backed newspaper's article proclaiming Castro's death (along with the subsequent communist insistence he was alive) and some old molotov cocktails.

The tour costs just $1CUC, and guides in English, Spanish and Italian are available.
