Other than revolution, Cuba's hallmark is rum. See how it's made from sugarcane to still to bottle at the Museo del Ron.
Not as expansive as its sister rum museum in Havana, Santiago de Cuba's version still offers a complimentary tasting at the end of every tour and with an entry fee of 1 convertible peso, roughly equivalent to $1 U.S., it's well worth the shot (!).
See rum's impact on the Cuban and Carribean economies and lifestyles through the age of colonialism and get a peek at the refinement of the rum-making process over time, from small hand-operated stills to the large-scale distilleries.
Make sure to stop by the adjacent Taberna del Ron after your tour and pick yourself up a bottle; you've earned it.
