Dominica is home to numerous national, cultural and religious celebrations. Some of the important one are New Year’s Day (1 and 2 January), Good Friday (March/April), Easter (March/April), Whit Monday (28 May), Independence Day (3 November), Community Service Day (4 November). There is a public holiday on these days.
Carnival, which is celebrated for two days, is marked with masquerades, dancing, singing, competitions and so forth that turn it into a very colourful festival where tourists as well as the Dominicans enjoy heartily. Domfest is a similar carnival celebrated with a lot of energy and fun.
