Water in Dominica is generally safe for drinking, but sticking to bottled water is always a better option while on a trip. Crime rates are almost negligible making it one of the safest places in the Caribbean region for tourists. Also, there are no threats from poisonous snakes and plants. One can avail of basic healthcare facilities at the Princess Margaret Hospital in Roseau.

What one really needs to protect oneself is from sunburn which can be a major concern while going out. Tourists should carry a strong sun protection cream and cover their lips, face and all parts exposed to the sun. Calamine or aloe vera creams are helpful for mild sunburns. Eyes should be protected using good sunglasses.

Visitors from North America can develop boils and toenail and fingernail fungi. One needs immunisation against diarrhoea before visiting Dominica. Foreigners on returning home should get checked for worm infestation.
