Casa de Campo is a 7000-acre area on the southeastern coast of the Dominican
Republic, near the city of La Romana. Casa de Campo is one of the prime seaside
resort areas in the country, with four championship golf courses, an equestrian
centre, a world-class marina, tennis courts, private vacation homes, hotels,
and even its own airport.
The Chavón River runs through Casa de Campo’s rolling hills. There
is even a replica Italian village, Altos de Chavón, built above the river’s
gorge to take advantage of the spectacular view.
La Romana, Casa de Campo's nearest municipality, is a centre of commerce and
the most cosmopolitan of the Dominican Republic’s cities. It grew from
a small fishing village on the banks of the Romana River. The Central Romana
Corporation, with the largest sugar mill in the country, was established in
1911. Casa de Campo is one of this organization’s most recent enterprises.
The first road in La Romana was called Calle Real Francisco Richiez Ducoudray,
although development took place mainly after the construction of the railroad
connection with El Seybo.
