Beautiful and run down next to each other, very poor people but great attitudes. Infrastructure very lacking but it works with some interuptions. Roads very poor and crowded, the bolivard is nice and ocean beautiful, the music is good and the people make do with what they have and are happy. It's amazing how it all works and when you look at it all you gotta love it. Motorcycles everywhere but the economy would suffer without the cheap transportation they bring. Beware don't stay too long , you wont want to leave. It's old, new fast, loud and a sea of beauty and tranquility depending on where you go, don't stay too long or you will learn where love is, beautiful people.

I traveled to Puerto Plata 30 years ago to write a newspaper article, I ended moving down and never left! We love it here! Since then we've opened a mountain ecolodge looking over Puerto Plata and the ocean. It's a nice change from the all-inclusives; it's the "real" Dominican Republic.
