San Salvador, its capital city, has no colonial reminds destroyed by the earthquakes which have afflicted the country for ages.
It is a modern city as there is very little remain of the old one. The most interesting and attractive area is the city centre are: the Plaza Barrios, the National Palace, the Cathedral, the Palace of the Archbishop and the Church of Rosario.
A wonderful view of the city can be enjoyed from the Parque Balboa, just through the Puerta del Diablo.
One day excursions can be easily organized from there to Lake Ilopango or simply enjoy San Salvador Volcano!
Extremely beautiful are the beaches, white sand beaches, and very expensive but comfortable hotels.
