Antigua guatemala: Attractions and more...
Antigua has a lot to offer such as a vibrant night life, many bars and restaurants, fine art galleries, many historical monuments and nature reserves. The city is especially famous for its Baroque architecture and is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Central Park is the heart of the city and has beautifully restored fountains. The Catedral Metropolitana is a perfect example of the colonial architecture of the Spanish. The Palacio de los Capitanes was the palace of the Spanish governors and is another excellent example of the architecture of that period.
The Colonial Museum has large exhibits of colonial artwork and is a good place to learn more about the history and culture of the region. The neighbouring towns and villages that should be visited for their beautiful churches are Ciudad Vieja, Jocotenango and Santa Catalina Barahona.
Antigua is also famous for elaborate religious celebrations in the week leading up to Easter.
