The city of Antigua is located amidst the central mountains of Guatemala. It lies in a highland valley surrounded by three spectacular volcanoes, the Volcan de Agua, the Acatenango and the Volcan de Fuego. The climate is temperate and pleasant.
The city has a population of about 33,000 people. The Mestizos and the descendants of the Spanish make up most of the population. The rest of the population comprises mainly of the descendants of the Amerindians.
The culture is a unique mixture of the ancient Mayan and Spanish. Although the official language in Antigua is Spanish, several Mayan and Amerindian dialects are also spoken.Related Contents
