The cross on hill, overlooking Antigua is a dangerous spot to visit during the night as the risk of robberies and assault increases after dark. It is advised to register with the tourist police before visiting the cross so as to have a guide.
When browsing or walking around in Antigua, it is wise to, literally, watch one’s step as the sidewalks are not very wide and the surface is uneven. Beware of taking pictures with locals and old folk as some of them will ask for payment for taking pictures with them.
Some people who sell craft on the roadside can be quite forceful and if you are not willing to buy, they may ask for money for some food; it is best to keep away from such people.
Leave expensive jewellery and watches in a safe place in your accommodation as wearing anything expensive could make you an attractive target for robbery. When travelling by taxi make sure to negotiate and agree on a price before starting the journey.
