The zoo was inaugurated in 1925 and houses a diverse variety of animal life, both native to Guatemala and from other parts of the world.
Animals are in cages, which are specially made to resemble the natural habitat of the particular animal.
There is a lot of information on display about the animal outside the cage.
The animals are houses in different sections according to the country or region they come from.
Food and drinks are available on different stands at the entrance to the zoo.
The zoo is quite expansive and a full tour can take a whole day.
For children, there are many small and large recreation areas in park like settings. There are also leisure areas for adults wishing to rest.
Many photographers are available to take your souvenir pictures while at the zoo. There are some shops for visitors to buy zoo souvenirs.
A perfect place for a family outing with children, the zoo attracts lots of local families at weekends.
