Tourist Guide Panajachel
The town of Panajachel is located on the shores of Lake Atitlan in the south-western Guatemalan Highlands. The town is situated at an altitude of 1,597 m and is surrounded by three breathtaking volcanoes. The climate is pleasant and spring-like throughout the year.
The population of Panajachel is 14,000. Most of the population comprises the descendants of the ancient Mayans. There are also descendants of the African slaves that were brought here by colonial settlers.
The culture of the area is a vibrant fusion of Mayan and Catholic traditions. This is best expressed in the religious rituals, attire and local handicrafts.
