Les Cayes has a sleepy charm all of its own. Visitors can enjoy a number of activities such as sunbathing, horse riding, swimming, water sports and hiking. The foot tapping local music and delicious cuisine is another major attraction.
Port Salut has one of the most beautiful wild beaches in the world with clean white sands and a waterfall. History buffs should visit the Ile-a-Vache where they can see the remains of the ancient Indians. The majestic ruins of the Fortresse des Platons is also popular with the tourists.
The Macaya National Park is a beautiful nature reserve that has a variety of exotic plants and animals and is also home to Haiti’s last virgin cloud forest. On the way to the National Park don’t forget to stop at Saut Mathurine, Haiti’s biggest waterfall.
The Fete de Notre Dame is held every year in August and is one of the best times to visit the town with festivities lasting till early hours of the morning.
