San Pedro Sula is located in the north-western part of Honduras. It is the capital of the department of Cortes and the economic capital of Honduras.
The city itself is located in the beautiful Sula Valley. The climate is tropical with an average temperature in the mid-twenties. The rainy season occurs between May to November.
San Pedro Sula has a population of about 900,000 people. Most of the populace are Mestizos and a mixture of Spanish and American Indian races. There are also some Europeans, Afro-Hondurans and some descendants of the indigenous Amerindians.
The city was founded in 1536 by Pedro de Alvarado. The city has many old buildings that bear testimony to the influence of the Spanish culture on the country. There are also some ancient Mayan ruins that provide a glimpse of the ancient traditions of this region.
