San Pedro Sula serves as an excellent base camp for people who want to experience the pleasures of travelling through Honduras. It is a large and modern city with many prominent hotels and tourist facilities that may not be available in smaller Honduran towns.
The biggest attraction near San Pedro Sula is the ancient Mayan Ruins of Copan, one of the largest and most impressive of all the Mayan archaeological centres discovered so far. This impressive portal to the past is famous for its exquisite carvings.
Other major tourist attractions include Lake Yojoa, the Pulhapanzak Waterfalls, the Cusuco Cloud Forest, Lancetilla Botanical Gardens, and the Omoa Fortress.
The beautiful bay islands of Roatan and Utila are also easily accessible from this city.
