Jamaica celebrates several events with political significance. 23 May is celebrated as Labour Day which is followed by Emancipation Day celebrations in August. The nation celebrates Independence Day on 6 August and National Heroes Day on 20 October.
With its rich history and diverse culture, Jamaica is home to several social and cultural events. Heritage Festival, the annual festival in Kingston, celebrates the diverse Jamaican population with food, music and dance. The Accompong Maroon Festival celebrates the Maroons. Carnival, one of the most important Jamaican festivals, is celebrated throughout the nation with parades and music. Jamaica is home to a number of arts and music festivals like Reggae Sumfest and Heineken Startime.
