Tourist Guide May Pen
May Pen is located in the Clarendon Parish in the southern region of the island country of Jamaica. With a population of approximately 50,000 inhabitants, this town is the capital of the parish.
May Pen lies in the plain region of the parish; the plain is crisscrossed by several rivers. As it is located in the interiors, May Pen experiences oppressive heat during summer.
The town was established by the British along the Rio Minho River; it started off as a plantation town. Owing to its location on the road connecting the bigger cities of Kingston and Manchester, May Pen has been rapidly developing.
Bauxite mining forms the backbone of the economy of Clarendon. In May Pen, packing and trading of citrus fruits is also an important contributor to the economy; it is especially known for its Trout Hall oranges.
