Tourist Guide Port Maria
Port Maria is the capital town of Saint Mary, a parish of Jamaica and is situated on the Pagee Beach. Port Maria lies seventy kilometers to the north of Kingston. The town is 1000 feet above the coastline. The town experiences a slightly different climate as compared to the rest of Jamaica and is cooler and wetter. The mayor of the town is Richard Creary at present. The town has a population of around 7,500 people on an average. The town has some well maintained buildings of the ancient colonial era. The town became famous as the site of firefly where the famous playwright Noel Coward live before he died in 1973. There is an Anglican church and a courthouse built in the 1800s which are interesting points to visit. The town has a number of agricultural products grown in the region such as coconuts, citrus, bananas, sugar, coffee and pimento.
