The tiny city of Basse Pointe is located on the slopes of Mount Pelee near the Atlantic coast of the island of Martinique.
The city is located on a flat rocky area that is at a relatively low altitude as compared to the surrounding mountains. The lush green vegetation, blue seas and breathtaking mountaintops make the topography of this area strikingly beautiful. The climate is tropical and the temperature stays in the mid-twenties throughout the year.
Basse Pointe has a population of about 4,400 people. Most of the population is a mixture of the African and native Indians. Other ethnic groups include the East Indians and the Chinese.
