Tourist Guide Fort-de-France
Fort-de-France is the capital of the Caribbean island of Martinique and one of the major cities of the Caribbean. Martinique is one of the departments of France.
The topography is mainly mountainous with the land gently sloping towards the coast into a beautiful, natural harbour. The climate is tropical and temperatures mostly remain in the mid-twenties throughout the year.
The city has a population of 134,727 people. Most of the population is a mixture of the African and native Indians. Other ethnic groups include the East Indians and the Chinese.
The culture of the region is a unique blend of the French and Caribbean influences. The official language is French, though Creole is also widely spoken by the inhabitants.
