The village resort area of San Juan del Sur, which is located in the southern part of Rivas, is one of the most popular tourist attractions in this area. It is also a prime destination for cruise ships.
San Juan del Sur has a number of hotels and resorts with pristine beaches, blue waters and lots of activities. It is renowned as a centre of surfing activities; you can also indulge in a number of water sports such as swimming, wind surfing, wake boarding, kite boarding and snorkelling.
There are many surfing camps and contests that are organised round the year with a lot of festivities, giving the place a carnival-like atmosphere.
The city of Rivas, prefers to move at a more sedate pace, and is the ideal spot for rest and relaxation. Visitors come here to laze around in the scenic beauty of the city and to explore the surrounding areas on horse back.
