Masaya is the capital town of the Masaya Department, Nicaragua in America. The town has a town meeting selection type of government and is known as the 'Town of Masaya'. It was named after Mount Masaya, a volcanic mountain. According to the 2005 census the population in the city was found to be around 146,000. The city of Granada is closest to this town and this town is well connected by road and rail to Granada and Managua. The town had recorded to have a total area of about 142.6 square kilometers. Basically an agricultural based city this city specializes in the production of cigars, soap and leather based products. This city is also called as the 'Cradle of Nicaraguan Folklore' as it produces handicrafts that show the rich culture here. The climate here is moderate throughout the year experiencing cool winters and very hot summers. This place is known for its market places.
