Ocotal, the capital city of Nueva Segovia Department is situated in the municipality of Ocotal. It is placed twenty one kilometers south of the Honduras edge on the Pan-American Highway. As of the 2000 census, the city bears a population of thirty one thousand nine hundred and thirty two people inside the valley. The term ‘Ocotal’ traces its origin from the Nahuatl word ‘pine resin’. The city is paired with UK, Swindon, Hartford, Wiesbaden, US, Germany and Connecticut. During 1927, Ocotal had borne the first dive blast attack. This incident was the first devastating incident in the history of the Ocotal city. That blasting was organized by five Marine de Havilland biplanes that fought against Augusto Cesar Sandino. Ocotal city was discovered by the Spanish colonialists at Quilali during the year 1543. The city comes under the department of Nueva Segovia. Nonetheless it is not a popular tourist destination; but is home to mind blowing natural beauty.
