Villa Sandino, the municipality of Nicaragua belongs to the Chontales department. The city covers an area of seven hundred and ninety seven square kilometers and as of 1995 the city bears a population of fourteen thousand seven hundred and forty three. Before its formation the city was called as Villa Hermosa. Villa Sandino traces its origin to the ancient village of Pueblo Viejo. The current name of the city was named after the national hero Augusto C. Sandino.
