Colon has a population of about 204,000 people. The majority of the population is of Mestizo decent. Other ethnic groups include descendants of the Chinese, Amerindians and Africans.
The culture, language and customs of the city are a vibrant fusion of Caribbean and Spanish cultures. Spanish is the official language, although English is also widely spoken.
