Panama Canal is the famous waterway which joins the Pacific and the Atlantic Oceans and is located in Central America. The history of the canal can be traced back to the 16th Century, which is when the idea of creating such a feat first originated. Construction finally began in 1881 and ended in 1914. The length of the canal is approximately 51 miles and has in total 4 dams along its route.
The historic canal is amongst the latest tourist destinations and one of the main attractions of Central America. An engineering masterpiece, it is also known to be the 8th wonder of the world.
A complete transit of the canal takes about 10 hours and can be booked with one of the canal tour companies. You can even go for a partial visit of the canal which starts from the Pacific side of the and travels towards the Atlantic .
The climate being tropical and temperatures moderate makes this destination open for tourists all year long.
