To experience true village life one can visit the Embera Indian Village, situated near the Chargres River, which is an 11 and a half hour drive from Panama city.
There are tours which operate and include a one-day itinerary along with meals.
The trip takes you across lake Alajuela through the splendours of the jungle. There is a lot to explore here including an abundance of wildlife and birds, a jungle trek, swimming in the Chagres River and a visit to a local waterfall.
Once you reach the Ember Village, you will be enthralled by the music and cultural dance performed by the people of Ember.
There are several contributions which this small community has made towards the manufacturing of modern pharmaceutical drugs as they have vast botanical knowledge.
You can have a look at the handicrafts made locally and paint your body with the natural fruit dye the locals use.
