The island of Vieques is located near the eastern coast of Puerto Rico. This tiny island covers a land area of just 135 square kilometres and is one of the municipalities of Puerto Rico.
This beautiful island has lush tropical forests and white sandy beaches. The climate is tropical with temperatures averaging 24°C in February and 28°C in August. The island receives plenty of rainfall between the months of August and November. Between June and November, there are also many tropical storms.
The island has a population of about 10,000 people which are the descendants of the Amerindians, Spanish, Africans and Chinese. The culture is a fascinating blend of these diverse ethnic groups. The main languages that are spoken are English and Spanish.
