Bequia is the northernmost island of the Grenadines and is part of the island chain of St. Vincent and Grenadines.
The island is about five miles long with lush green hills, white sandy beaches and large natural bays with clear blue water. The climate is tropical and average temperatures are in the mid-twenties. The island is cooled by the trade winds which blow as a gentle breeze throughout the year.
Bequia has a population of 5,000 people. Most of the inhabitants are of African origin, but there are also some descendants of the Scottish, Irish, French, Indian and the Caribs.
The vibrant culture of this island is an intriguing mix of African, English, French and Carib traditions. English is the official language, though the local dialect is a little difficult to understand.
