The capital, São Tomé, is a great place to start. It is a charming little town with Portuguese architecture and landscaped parks, all of which can be easily explored on foot. Interesting stops include the National Museum set up in a 400-year-old fort and the sixteenth-century cathedral.
Trinidade is a popular spot on the island. It boasts of a beautiful waterfall, Cascadas de São Nicolau, and is also a great hike trail up to the Pico São Tomé peak.
Príncipe, the second main island is surrounded by volcanic mountains, forests and the ocean, making for quite a dramatic setting. Santo António, the capital, is a picturesque town, radiating an Old World charm. The island offers excellent sailing, fishing and snorkelling facilities for tourists.
The islands also provides opportunities for water sports at a number of spots across the country, starting for Principe, to the Ilhéu das Rolas Islands, Lagoa Azul Islands and Bom Bom
